Substance Use by Adolescents on an Average Day is Alarming

According to a recent Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) report, the number of teens using marijuana daily could almost fill up the Indianapolis Speedway two and a half times. The arena seats approximately 250,000 people.
The SAMHSA study shed light onto daily teen substance use. Among those aged 12 to 17, 881,684 smoked cigarettes, 646,707 smoke marijuana, and 457,672 drank alcohol on a daily basis. The study drew on data from a variety of SAMHSA data sets. Additionally, researchers found that more than 71,000 teens received outpatient treatment on an average day.
